BOARD MEETING MINUTES
December 12, 2022
1:30 p.m.
The Board of Health for Lewis County Washington met in regular session on Monday, December 12, 2022, at
1:30 p.m. COMMISSIONERS SEAN SWOPE, AND LINDSEY R. POLLOCK, DVM, attended. CHAIR
POLLOCK determined a quorum, called the meeting to order, and proceeded with the flag salute. Javier Mejia
addressed the Zoom guidelines. COMMISSIONER SWOPE moved to approve minutes from the regular
meeting on October 10, 2022 and approve amended minutes from June 13, July 11, and September 12, 2022
COMMISSIONER Pollock seconded. Motion carried 2 -0.

PUBLIC COMMENT

Meredith Jones provided a presentation regarding the Lewis County Food Program Services. The following
highlights were included:
• CDC national estimates on foodborne illnesses
• General disease guidelines (infection durations and symptoms)
• Different types of foodbome illness pathogens
• Foodborne illness prevention
• Program interactions with entities
• Entities who utilize this program
• Impacts of foodbome illness
CONSENT AGENDA
Commissioner Swope made a motion to approve the consent items, Commissioner Pollock seconded.
H. Res #121222.1 Appointing Teresa Eckdahl- Johnson to the Public Health & Social Services Advisory Board
to finish term ending December 31, 2022 and continue serving through December 31, 2025.
Commissioner Pollock called for a vote on the listed consent item. Motion carried 2 -0.
PUBLIC HEALTH UPDATE
Public Health & Social Services (DHSS) Advisory Board update from Chair — Jami Lund, including the
following highlights:

Briefly talked about tasks and roles the Advisory Board have identified and adopted
Planning for the 2023 Advisory Board strategic calendar
Process of filling Advisory Board vacancies — made recommendation to start filling vacancies in
November to allow new members to begin serving in January.
Group discussion took place regarding advisory board member involvement with Department contracts and
involvement with mental/behavioral health programs.
Meja Handlen provided a Department update, including the following highlights:
• Progress towards cleaning and organizing the Animal Shelter
• Point -in -Time count for persons experiencing homeless in Lewis County
• Public Health funding and how Public Health has been utilizing those funds
o All Public Health staff attended de- escalation training
Dr. Joseph Wiley provided a Health Officer Update, including the following highlights:
• Regional Health Officer meeting recap with Dr. Jay Miller
• Update on influenza
• Update on respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) - population that is most at risk
• Massive shortage in hospital staff
Group discussion took place regarding resources members of the public can access to help shorten hospital wait
times. Resources such as triage pamphlets or guidance listing information on when it is time to go to the hospital
and telehealth services were mentioned.
Commissioner Swope moved to adjourn. Commissioner Pollock seconded and adjourned.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 2:33 p.m. on Monday, December 12, 2022. The
next public meeting will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023 at 1:30 p.m.
