2019-08-19 Fire Commissioners meetingFire Commissioners’ Meeting Salkum Fire Department (2490 U.S. Highway 12, Salkum, Wash.) August 19, 2019 7:03 p.m. Present: Commissioner Jackson, Commissioner Stamper, Commissioner Fund, County Manager Erik Martin, Public Works Director Josh Metcalf, Fire Marshal Doyle Sandford, Sheriff Rob Snaza and various members of the Lewis County Fire Commissioners’ Association Guests: Various members of the public Recorder: Rieva Lester The Lewis County Fire Commissioners called their meeting to order at 7:03 p.m. County Manager Erik Martin said the Combined User Committee is working on budgets. Commissioner Jackson said he serves on the state 911 committee, which is starting a feasibility study regarding regionalization and consolidation. He said a follow-up meeting is planned for Aug. 20. Commissioner Jackson said he learned earlier in the day that he had been appointed to the state’s Interoperability Executive Committee. Commissioner Fund invited the audience to the weekend’s Garlic Fest. She also encouraged the audience to sign up for Lewis County Alert. Commissioner Fund invited the audience to the final Threshing Bee as well as the Hub City Car Show. Commissioner Stamper said the commissioners met with DNR earlier in the day to discuss timber harvests. He said it’s critical that special purpose districts call for more timber sales, especially since timber revenue is expected to decrease over the next few years. Commissioner Fund invited fire chiefs to weigh in on a proposed fireworks ban, which is something the county is exploring. Erik Martin said the commissioners and he met with TCOMM in July. He said he and TCOMM’s director will meet again within the next month or so to discuss a feasibility study. Erik said the following are the most important topics as consolidation talks continue:  Public safety  Economy  Efficiency and effectiveness  Unified front Public Works Director Josh Metcalf gave an update on road closures. Chief James Martin said the next Fire Commissioners’ meeting will be Nov. 18 at District 6. Meeting adjourned at 7:56 p.m.
