2017-01-10 Meeting about agritourism grantMeeting about proposed agritourism grant
January 10, 2017
8:28 a.m.
Present: Commissioner Fund, Commissioner Jackson, Glenn Carter and Steve Wohld
Recorder: Rieva Lester
The group discussed an agritourism grant proposed by Harry Bhagwandin.
Glenn said that the way the grant is written, the grant requires a $50,000 match, which the application
indicates will be appropriated by Lewis County.
Glenn said the application indicates the county has earmarked $50,000 for the creation of agritourism
maps. He asked if that was correct.
Commissioner Fund and Steve Wohld indicated the county has not earmarked $50,000 for the project.
Glenn said the application describes the project as a “self-guided ag tour” that will be used at the fair.
Steve said he believes Harry’s intentions are pure. The group said the worry is that the grant application
language indicates that the money has been earmarked.
The group discussed creating a plan that could put Harry’s enthusiasm and efforts to use.
Glenn left the meeting at 8:37 a.m.
The group discussed setting up a meeting with Harry to discuss the legal reasons this particular grant
would not be able to move forward. The group discussed ways to invite him to continue looking for
grants, just some that don’t require matching funds.
Meeting ended at 9:50 a.m.
