2017-05-03 Fleet replacement discussion DRAFTFleet replacement discussion May 3, 2017 10:33 a.m. Present: Commissioner Fund, Commissioner Jackson, Lara Seiler, Erik Martin, Becky Butler, Tim Mixer, Commissioner Stamper (joined at 10:38 a.m.) Recorder: Rieva Lester Becky Butler asked for a background on how fleet replacement decisions are made. Erik Martin gave an overview of vehicles with mileage exceeding 150,000 miles, which is the basic threshold set for replacement. Tim Mixer said 150,000 miles is a little higher than the industry standards, but he said high maintenance standards help the county hold on to vehicles longer. The group discussed the logistics of replacing engines instead of entire vehicles, the unknown number of vehicle users, and how purchases affect future rates. Erik said vehicles are sold as surplus annually. The group discussed how other jurisdictions handle fleet replacement and the different needs of other regions. The group discussed approval given for Assessor’s Office vehicles. The group discussed the Ready for Road package purchased by the Sheriff’s Office. Betsy Dillin joined the meeting at 10:57 a.m. Commissioner Fund left at 10:58 a.m. Tim Mixer said mileage, age, and the general condition of vehicles are factors in selecting which vehicles to surplus. Mary Kay Nelson joined the meeting at 11:03 a.m. The group discussed asking for information regarding how many cars are in use and who is driving what. Tim said inspections are done annually. Meeting ended at 11:10 a.m.
