2017-10-10 Central Services updateCentral Services update October 10, 2017 2:39 p.m. Present: Commissioner Stamper, Commissioner Fund, Commissioner Jackson, Steve Walton, Tamara Hayes, Steve Wohld (3:07 p.m.) Recorder: Rieva Lester Steve Walton said he is crunching fair numbers. He said Laura Miller has returned full time. Steve gave the following updates: Facilities Senior buildings: Meeting is planned for Oct. 12 to discuss a lease agreement Electrical project at the fairgrounds: Excavating done, PUD pulling wire Law and Justice boiler: There but not yet installed Packwood Skate Creek parking: Concerns include vandalism, restroom maintenance Highway 508 shop: Search and Rescue gear on site, more discussions planned Fee schedule for county spaces: Doug Carey working on draft for classrooms, conference rooms, etc. Claquato Church: Steve discussed a recent news story regarding the historic Claquato Church, which a couple plans to rent from the county to hold Cowboy Church beginning Oct. 15 Commissioner Stamper left at 3:01 p.m. and returned at 3:02 p.m. CFP items for BOCC approval: Juvenile carpet ($10,000 – Fund 301), evidence card lock ($5,700 – Fund 301), jail washer ($10,000 – Fund 310) Commissioner Fund made a motion to approve the purchase of juvenile carpet, evidence card lock, and jail washer. Commissioner Jackson seconded the motion. Motion passed 3-0. Steve Wohld joined the meeting at 3:07 p.m. Finance system Sessions planned: Sessions plan this week and later in the month / in final throes of Phase I. Steve said Phase II (HR / payroll) goes live next year. Fair Training for fiscal duties (transition takes place in October): Training to begin in October with plans to take over duties in January Shelter update: No update Discuss 2017 fair, Garlic Fest and future: Tamara Hayes said a friend found an 1880 article about the fourth-annual fair in Chehalis Discover Lewis County: Steve Walton discussed the possibility of moving DLC to the fair. Steve Wohld discussed the potential benefits of moving DLC to the fair. Among other things, it could open advertising avenues, he said. If the transition were to take place, he said, IT would help with the transition. Tamara discussed the opportunities the move would create. She discussed the ability to work on bringing events to the area. She discussed future funding for Discover Lewis County. She said she has researched how other counties promote tourism. Steve Walton said it would be almost a wash budget-wise. Justyna Tomtas joined the meeting at 3:28 p.m. Archie Smith joined at 3:30 p.m. Commissioner Jackson discussed the growth potential the fair presents. Steve Wohld, Steve Walton, and Tamara said they would further explore the possibility. Commissioner Stamper stressed that he would not support the transition if it meant more staff would have to be hired. He also said he’d want to make sure county employees attended rural events. Commissioner Jackson left at 3:42 p.m. Meeting ended at 3:43 p.m.
