2020-01-21 BOCC Wrap-UpBOCC Wrap-Up January 21, 2020 9:05 a.m. Present: Commissioner Fund, Commissioner Jackson, County Manager Erik Martin, Becky Butler, JP Anderson (by phone at 9:23 a.m.), Steve Wohld (9:53 a.m.), Steve Walton (9:55 a.m.) Recorder: Rieva Lester The group recapped the previous week’s ESC Meeting, including discussions about salaries in the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office. Erik Martin and Becky Butler reviewed raises above and beyond COLAs that the commissioners have approved in the past several years. JP Anderson joined by phone at 9:23 a.m. JP discussed outreach regarding affordable housing. JP joined in person at 9:30 a.m. JP discussed the upcoming Homeless Connect events planned for Chehalis and Morton on Jan. 23 and 24. Commissioner Jackson discussed requests he has fielded regarding a letter of consent for refugee resettlement. Commissioner Jackson said he is not in favor of providing a letter of consent regarding refugees as he feels that would take resources away from those already here. Commissioner Fund said she feels the urban areas would be a better fit as resources and services – such as medical and transit – are more available there. Commissioner Fund said the State Auditor’s Office has contacted the BOCC about an audit of Cemetery District 5. The commissioners discussed the need to appoint policy makers, not implementers, to the .09 Distressed Committee. Commissioner Fund said she would contact the Port of Centralia regarding its request to have the BOCC appoint Kyle Heaton to the board. Commissioner Fund provided an update on Great Rivers BHO and ASO. Commissioner Fund discussed a recent Farm Tour. The commissioners approved minutes for the week of Jan. 6, 2020. Becky Butler discussed bills before the state Legislature. She noted there are lots of Growth Management Act and affordable housing bills.
