LEWIS COUNTY BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
WHEREAS,Washington is home to more than 37,500 farms—including more than 1,600 in Lewis County
alone—and more than 90 percent of Washington's farms are family-owned; and
WHEREAS,farming is the state's second-largest business sector, and agriculture represents 13 percent
of Washington's economy, amounting to $51 billion in revenue and 164,400 jobs;
WHEREAS, Lewis County alone boasts more than $132,328,000 in agricultural sales annually and leads
the state in Christmas tree sales as well as poultry and egg sales; and
WHEREAS,the Washington Farm Bureau formed in 1920, a year after creation of the American Farm
Bureau Federation,to ensure that rural citizens enjoy the same benefits as those living in cities; and
WHEREAS,the Washington Farm Bureau is the state's largest all-encompassing ag organization,
representing Lewis County and 24 other county Farm Bureau organizations across the state to champion
farmers' interests at the local, state and national levels; and
WHEREAS,the Washington Farm Bureau, commonly referred to as the "Voice of Washington
Agriculture," is celebrating its 100th anniversary;
NOW,THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Lewis County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC)
understands the huge role agriculture plays in Lewis County residents' lives and livelihoods and
acknowledges the key leadership and support the Washington Farm Bureau provides. The BOCC
congratulates the Washington Farm Bureau for its centennial year and thanks the group for the work it
does on behalf of the farmers from Lewis County and all of Washington.
