2020-04-23 BOCC Wrap-Up COVID-19BOCC Wrap-Up / COVID-19 Meeting April 23, 2020 3:03 p.m. Present: Commissioner Stamper (remotely), Commissioner Fund (remotely), Commissioner Jackson, County Manager Erik Martin, Matt Matayoshi, Amber Smith (remotely), Josh Metcalf (remotely), Lara McRea (remotely), Lee Napier (remotely), Candy Hallom, Glenda Forga (remotely at 3:20 p.m.), Ron Averill (remotely at 3:28 p.m.) Guests: Dr. Lindsey Pollock (remotely), Bill Serrahn (remotely), various members of the public and press (remotely) Recorder: Rieva Lester Erik Martin said the county has learned of three new confirmed cases of COVID-19: a person in their 30s, one in the 50s and one in their 70s. He said the county’s total is 25 confirmed cases with three fatalities. Erik discussed projects the county is working on to prepare for the eventual reopening of county buildings. Matt Matayoshi said the EDC is coordinating with clinics and hospitals to help fill any gaps they may have. He said the CARES Act includes funding for hospitals and clinics. Matt said an area manufacturing company has seen a large decrease in orders and plans to turn its attention to making face shields instead of its regular goods. Becky Butler said the Lewis County Seniors organization has requested an additional $50,000 donation from Lewis County to help offset increased costs linked to its increased meal prep (and meal delivery). Commissioner Stamper discussed funding from the Lewis-Mason-Thurston Area Agency on Aging (LMTAAA). Commissioner Stamper made a motion to approve providing to the Lewis County Seniors an additional $50,000 donation for 2020 for nutrition. Commissioner Fund seconded. Glenda Forga joined at 3:20 p.m. Glenda outlined overtime and extra personnel costs associated with the meal preparation and delivery. Glenda said the group provided 1,200 meals the first week of the COVID-19 closures (during the latter part of March). She said the group provided 2,400 meals the second week (at the end of March) and is now providing 4,500 meals per week. Glenda said the LC Seniors group has spent $40,000 through mid-April in response to its COVID-19 meals. She said some meal donations are trickling in but that the group is no longer raising its typical $800 to $1,200 daily total from the thrift store because of the statewide closures. Ron Averill joined at 3:28 p.m. Ron and Glenda discussed services the group is providing. Motion passed 3-0. Becky said a Region 3 meeting is scheduled for April 24. She said Commissioner Stamper is scheduled to attend. She asked for guidance on what to address. The commissioners said they would provide talking points. The commissioners said they’d like to start holding in-person meetings. The commissioners discussed their calendars and the new Lewis County Together site. Meeting adjourned at 4 p.m.
