2022-02-16 Auditor Treasurer UpdateAuditor / Treasurer Update February 16, 2022 10:30 a.m. Present: Commissioner Pollock, Commissioner Grose, Austin Majors, Larry Grove, Grace Jimenez, Rodney Reynolds, Arny Davis, Shelly Stewart, Katie Conradi, Erik Martin Guest(s): None Recorder: Tammy Martin Rodney Reynolds said lodging tax collections for Lewis County saw a 50% increase over the prior year. Arny Davis said Lewis County has great banking relations with Columbia State Bank and Café Bank and that both banks are secure to bank with. They have been vetted by State Treasurer and are monitored by Lewis County’s IT department. Grace Jimenez said the availability period for 2021 billing will be wrapping up soon. Grace was very excited to report the Auditor’s Office hired a financial analyst I who will start March 1, 2022. Grace said the Auditor’s Office is working to implement more items within Munis. Larry Grove said ballots will be canvassed soon for the February election. Larry said there is still modified hours in the office due to staffing and Covid-related issues. Commissioner Grose had concerns about the 2021 property tax refunds the Board had reviewed. Shelly Stewart said the refunds are mostly due to exemptions added to parcels, value change adjustments or refunds in tax payment overages. The largest refund was due to a court order for repayment to Hampton Lumber Mill. Arny said the amount the overall amount refunded did not have a negative impact on the budget.
