Nunc pro tunc for Ordinance 1347: Commissioner Brummer made a motion to approve a nunc pro tunc
fix for Ordinance 1347 to correct scrivener’s error in Section 8.60.050. Commissioner Pollock seconded.
Motion passed 3-0.
Comprehensive Plan RFP: The commissioners approved the reissuance of request for proposals (RFP)
for the periodic update of the Lewis County Comprehensive Plan. Mindy Brooks noted that a resolution
for the RFP will go before the commissioners Sept. 5.
Lewis County Seniors: Commissioner Brummer urged Carol Brock to resign from her role as Lewis
County Seniors president.
Lewis-Mason-Thurston Area Agency on Aging (LMTAAA) Advisory Council representation:
Commissioner Brummer made a motion remove Carol Brock as the county’s representative on the
LMTAAA effective immediately. Commissioner Pollock seconded. Motion passed 3-0.
Proposed needle exchange policy: The commissioners discussed the potential for a one-for-one
exchange policy.
Timberland Regional Library policies: The commissioners expressed concern with the TRL leadership
declining a meeting with them to review a potential book-rating system. The commissioners said they
will meet with the county’s two TRL board representatives.
Proposed overnight shelter policies for minors: Commissioner Swope proposed policies for minors that
could apply to the county-owned building being used to house the shelter.
Proposed overnight shelter regarding registered sex offenders: Commissioner Swope proposed policies
regarding registered sex offenders that could apply to the county-owned building being used to house
the shelter.
Proposed Parks ordinance: Commissioner Swope said he’d like to emulate Centralia’s recently-passed
parks ordinance.
Potential ordinance to protect on-duty firefighters and EMTs: Fire District 15 Commissioner Randy
Pennington discussed recent legislation that removed protections for firefighters and EMTs. He
suggested the commissioners consider drafting an ordinance to provide protection for EMTs and
firefighters.
Department of Ecology grant: Meja Handlen discussed a grant that would allow the county to provide
solid-waste related assistance.
WSAC press release regarding mental health treatment litigation: The commissioners directed Nic
Scott to localize WSAC’s press release.
911 sales and use tax (placeholder): Commissioner Brummer said a group is working on having a
political action committee (PAC) to work on the sales and use tax.
Calendars: Commissioner Swope discussed an upcoming meeting regarding the removal of junk RVs.
Announcements / new business: Josh Metcalf said there are more than 40 wildfires burning in Lewis
County. He said emergency responders have prepared evacuation plans. The commissioners directed Nic
Scott to draft a press release regarding the wildfires.
