Marijuana / Ordinance 1271: The commissioners discussed proposed federal changes regarding
marijuana / cannabis.
Mindy Brooks said Lewis County Code Lewis County Code (Ordinance 1271) provides that marijuana
production, processing and retail is allowed with a federal license, which currently is not available.
She said the Department of Justice’s Drug Enforcement Administration has proposed moving marijuana
from Schedule I of the Controlled Substances Act (“CSA”) to Schedule III of the CSA. The move, she
noted, likely would mean that the federal government would begin providing licensing for marijuana
production, processing and retail.
Mindy said County Code allows one licensed retail facility per zip code.
The group discussed creating a task force to review the proposed changes and draft potential code
changes regarding marijuana production, processing and retail.
